Annual Six Flags St. Louis Music Festival For High School, Junior High, Middle School and Elementary Ensembles

Your ensemble can choose to perform for competition or for rating only

What You Should Know Before You Go

Who May Participate
The festival is open to elementary, middle school, junior and senior high school men's, mixed, treble and women's choirs.

Performance Times
15-minute warm-up and 20-minute performance.

Each group should arrive at the park and register at least one hour before their scheduled performance time. Upon arrival, directors should register at the registration table located near the front gate. Final instructions and an escort will be assigned. During the performance, each group may perform two selections of contrasting style, an optional warm-up may be performed not to exceed three minutes in length.

Performance Facilities
Performances will take place in the Palace Theater. Warm-ups will take place at a location to be designated.

Adjudicators
At this time*, the following adjudicators are scheduled for the 2009 Six Flags Music Festival.

  • Linda Jesse - Associate Professor of Music, College of Ozarks, MO
  • Richard Bell - Professor Emertius, Jefferson College, MO
  • Ladd Faszold - Music Department Chair, Missouri, Baptist University, MO

*Please note that these adjudicators are not guaranteed and the panel may be changed, without notice, at any time.

Music Requirements
Selections are at the discretion of the director. The ensemble director will supply three sets of original scores for the adjudicated selections. Accompaniment tapes are NOT permitted. Due to liability and insurance, Six Flags cannot grant special requests for electrical and lighting needs during performances.

Dress
There are no special dress requirements.
Each director must decide what is appropriate.
Dressing facilities are NOT available.

 

Equipment Provided
Equipment provided by Six Flags at the festival site:

  • Microphone
  • Piano
  • Step choral risers

We ask that you use the equipment provided. Don’t forget any other equipment you may need. Please do not bring any equipment you cannot carry. Judges tapes will be provided by Six Flags.

Awards
Each school will receive evaluation for competition or rating only. Each group that receives a superior rating (average score of 90 or higher) will receive a plaque immediately following their performance.

All bands and choirs entered in competition will compete for the First Place Trophy, awarded to the highest scoring band and choir in each division, each week. There will not be an awards ceremony as in the past. The trophies and recap sheets will be mailed to the schools following the festival. Directors or a designated adult should pick up their tapes and adjudication sheets after their performance.

Festival Fees
Student fees include adjudication fee and admission to the park. All tickets must be purchased through the festival office.

*The Meal Voucher can be redeemed for your choice of one of the following:

  • A cheeseburger with fries and drink
  • Chili-Cheese hot dog with fries and drink

We will provide one FREE chaperone ticket for every 15 tickets you purchase. This does not apply to meal vouchers.

Refunds and Cancellations
Upon receipt of written notification of cancellation by October 14, Six Flags Music Festival will refund the cost of tickets purchased. After these deadlines NO refunds will be made.


Once You're at the Festival

Schedule of the Day's Activities
Upon arrival, directors should proceed to Six Flags Music Festival registration table located at the entrance to the park. Upon arrival, instructions will be given and warm-up/performance times confirmed. Fifteen minutes prior to warm-up, groups will meet their escort who will show them to an area where they may warm-up. Refer to warm-up limits under "Performance Times." All groups will be escorted five minutes prior to scheduled performance time to the Palace Theater. After performances, groups will be escorted out of the park. Groups who have purchased an admission ticket may re-enter Six Flags, upon the park's opening.

Remember: to have three sets of original scores, (not photocopied scores) with measures numbered consecutively. Music, tapes and adjudication forms will be available immediately after your performance.


To Register

Step 1. Fill out the Registration Form and return it along with a $55.00 registration fee. Enter each group under your direction on a separate application. If other groups from your school are attending, they must apply separately.


Payment Authorization Form

Step 2. Use the separate Ticket Order Form that you will receive with your directors kit to mail the balance of your payment before October 14, 2009 to ensure participation. You will receive your Bus Parking Vouchers and performance schedule. Park tickets will be picked at Six Flags St. Louis on the day of the Festival.
